I went through hell – Ex-Winners Chapel Pastor spills why he dumped Church .
Victor detailed the hardships of pastoring, describing how many clergy members are forced to live in extreme conditions, often begging for as little as N1,000 to survive.
He shared a tragic story of a fellow pastor who died from an untreated ulcer simply because he lacked the money for medical treatment.
"Desperation and hunger sometimes drive pastors to deceive their congregations just to make ends meet," Victor explained.
Having initially believed he was called by God to serve, Victor joined Winners Chapel in 2019 and was sent to Kaduna after his ordination. However, his experience was far from what he had envisioned.
Instead of spiritual fulfillment, he was faced with a distressing reality that pushed him to walk away from the pulpit.
Victor's efforts were not without success; he grew the congregation of his assigned church to 200 members. However, this accomplishment was overshadowed by the frustration and hardship he endured within the church.
He recalled how many people placed pastors on a pedestal, assuming they were financially secure and had everything figured out. This misconception only made the struggles of pastors like him even harder to bear.
Reflecting on the core issue that extinguished his passion for ministry, Victor described the church environment as one filled with words of love but actions rooted in hatred. The hypocrisy, he said, was deeply ingrained and left him disillusioned. He ultimately resigned from Winners Chapel in 2021, drawn initially by the charisma of a wealthy preacher. However, upon closer inspection, he realized that the luxurious image portrayed by such preachers was nothing more than a facade.
Victor's candid confession serves as a sobering reminder of the often unseen burdens carried by religious leaders, and his story is a call for greater empathy and understanding of their personal struggles.
